Giorgio Walter Canonica, M.D. is a professor of allergy and respiratory diseases, chairman of the Allergy and Respiratory Diseases Clinic and director of the Specialty School of Pulmonary Diseases at Genoa University in Genoa, Italy.

Professor Canonica is secretary general of the World Allergy Organization (WAO), chairman of the European Academy of Allergology and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) continuing medical education committee, secretary-treasurer of the Italian Federation of Medical-Scientific Societies and past president of the Italian Society of Respiratory Medicine. He is also a member of numerous organizations, including the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (AAAAI), American Thoracic Society (ATS) and the European Respiratory Society (ERS).

He has published more than 350 international papers and is editor-in-chief of Allergy & Respiratory Diseases Today and Current Opinion in Allergy and Clinical Immunology and associate editor-in-chief of Allergy and Clinical Immunology International.

Professor Canonica’s research interests focus on molecular events and interactions between immunocompetent cells, inflammatory cells, epithelial cells in allergic inflammation and quality of life evaluation in patients with respiratory and allergic diseases.

Professor Canonica serves on the Global Asthma Physician and Patient (GAPP) Survey Advisory Board.
